A Note From the Director
By Emily Heglund
Dear Friends,
Having now had some time to reflect on 2024 and all that the year brought my way, I find myself incredibly grateful for so many things.
First, I’m grateful to be here at SPCA of East Texas. For several months before I started in my role, I felt that I was being called away from higher education as a career path and back toward nature and animals, two things I’m deeply passionate about. Although I didn’t know how this calling would manifest, I kept myself open, and I’m so thankful that I can now look forward to coming to work each and every day to serve alongside people who share my passion for animal welfare. It is truly a gift!
I’m also grateful for the thriving community of people that comprise SPCA of East Texas. We enjoy support at every level from people who truly want to make a difference – and it shows in the way our community turns up for us! Whenever we hit a bump in the road, our community is always there to cushion the fall, and we are so very, very grateful.
I’m thankful for our facility at 3245 W. Grande, which provides us such a comfortable space to do our work. Many months of thought, worry, and work went into developing this building for SPCA ETX, and it is something I think about often. I know I can speak for our staff and volunteers when I say we are glad to be here together under one roof.
On a smaller scale, I’m thankful for repair workers who are prompt and kind; donuts in the break room; people who jump in to help even when they don’t have to; co-workers who like to decorate the office; and fosters who share funny stories about our animals.
If you are receiving this newsletter, please know that I’m grateful for you and your support of SPCA ETX. Our community is the absolute best, and I’m looking forward to what the new year will bring. Thank you, so much, for all you do!
Sincerely,
Emily Heglund
