Volunteer of the Month – Dametria Webster
Rain or shine, Dametria arrives at SPCA with a leash in hand and a heart full of dedication. As the lead dog walker, she not only takes our sanctuary dogs on daily walks but also plays a pivotal role in training new volunteers, building strong bonds with large-breed dogs, and even treating them to pup cones or weekend getaways. Her commitment has made a significant difference in the lives of countless dogs, helping them thrive and find their forever homes.
Dametria’s journey with SPCA began nearly six years ago after the unexpected loss of her beloved dog. Seeking a way to heal, she donated her pet’s belongings to the shelter and was inspired by a sign that read, “Volunteer, Foster, Adopt.” That same day, she signed up to volunteer. Since then, she has become an essential part of the SPCA family, dedicating her time and energy to ensuring that the sanctuary’s 29 dogs receive the care, love, and attention they need.
In her role, Dametria updates communication boards, liaises with staff and volunteers, and addresses any issues that arise. Her favorite part of the job is witnessing the incredible progress dogs make—from timid newcomers to confident, leash-trained companions. For her, the trail walks aren’t just exercise; they’re moments of connection and trust-building between humans and animals.
Her experience at SPCA has also deepened her understanding of animal welfare, from the challenges of caring for neglected pets to the resources required to ensure their well-being. Beyond the day-to-day tasks, Dametria values the community impact of SPCA’s events and their role in raising awareness.
“The most rewarding part is seeing a dog learn to trust, roll over for belly rubs, or simply wag their tail in appreciation,” Dametria shared. “Every bond formed and every adoption is a victory.”
Over the years, Dametria has embraced every aspect of the SPCA’s mission—volunteering, fostering, and adopting. She encourages others to get involved, whether through dog walking, cleaning kennels, or spending time with animals. “There’s something for everyone,” she says. “It’s a wonderful way to give back and feel part of a family.”
The SPCA East Texas family celebrates Dametria’s incredible contributions and is grateful for her unwavering dedication.
